Mnemonic Device for Trigonometric Ratios


Mnemonic Device for  Trigonometric Ratios.

Things to remember :
SIN = opposite/hypotenuse  
COS = adjacent/hypotenuse    
TAN = opposite/adjacent

Mnemonic Device Type :
ACRONYM and Rhyme

Mnemonic Device :
SOH    CAH    TOA

Explanation :
Take out the first letters form SIN Opposite and Hypotenuse. What do you get? SOH right !!! .


Do the same with COS and TAN.  Do you get CAH and TOA.  Now let’s combine this i.e.

SOH    CAH    TOA

Now by remembering  SOH    CAH    TOA we can remember :
SIN = opposite/hypotenuse  
COS = adjacent/hypotenuse    
TAN = opposite/adjacent

Why will I remember? :
When you hear trigonometric functions you will automatically remember   SOH    CAH    TOA  and then ;
SIN = opposite/hypotenuse  
COS = adjacent/hypotenuse    
TAN = opposite/adjacent
