Things to remember :
1.      Oxidation is Loss of Electron.

2.      Reduction is Gain of Electron.

Mnemonic Device :
OIL
Oxidation is loss of Electron.

RIG
RIG Reduction is Gain of Electron

Explanation :
Remember we are taking Electron not Proton.

Since Oxidation Is Loss of electron, take out the first letters and make OIL.

Reduction Is Gain of Electron so make it as RIG.

So if you remember OIL and RIG, you can answer what happens in oxidation and reduction.
